About Kim
Kia ora — I’m Kim Redmond, and I clean ovens. That’s it. Not windows, not carpets, not the whole house — ovens.
I’m based in Darfield at the foot of the Malvern hills, and for the better part of a decade I’ve travelled from my place to yours across the Selwyn District and Christchurch, doing one job to a standard I’d want in my own kitchen. There’s no team behind this business, no franchise head office, no call centre. When you ring 021 054 4661, you get me.
How it started
There’s no dramatic origin story — just an ordinary truth about houses: everyone’s oven gets worse quietly, nobody enjoys fixing it, and most people put it off until the state of it genuinely bothers them. Somewhere along the way I found that I was rather good at that fix, that I liked the visible before-and-after of honest work, and that Selwyn needed someone who did this one thing properly rather than everything adequately. So ovens became the craft.
The other part was choosing where to base it. I live in Darfield; my customers are my community. When someone in Kirwee or Rolleston or Hornby books me, they’re hiring a neighbour, and neighbours don’t do shoddy work and disappear.
Why eco-friendly
Kitchens are where families gather — kids underfoot, pets on the floor, dinner on its way. I made the choice early on to use eco-friendly products so that when I leave, there are no harsh chemical smells lingering in the room where you cook, and surfaces are rinsed and ready to use. It takes more patience than the harsh stuff, but patience is exactly what a specialist has.
What I believe about the work
Quote first, always. You’ll know the full price before anything is booked, and the price agreed is the price you pay. “Professional results at affordable prices” isn’t marketing copy I borrowed — it’s how I’ve run this since the start.
Let the photos talk. I’m not comfortable boasting in print, so my Facebook page does the talking with real before-and-afters from real local kitchens — including ovens their owners had written off. The record speaks too: every one of the 24 people who’ve reviewed me there recommends my work. One review captures what I aim for: “What a lovely treat to come home to a sparkling, like new, oven. Great job.” — Robyn P., Facebook review.
Honesty over upsell. If your oven needs something outside what I offer, I’ll tell you what I saw and suggest you find the right person for it. And if an old oven is genuinely past saving, you’ll hear that from me plainly too — though you’d be surprised what comes back from looking beyond hope.
One pair of hands. The person you book is the person who turns up. That’s rarer than it should be, and I think it’s why people keep my number on the fridge.
What I don’t do
Domestic ovens are the craft — singles, doubles, wall ovens, range cookers, plus hobs and rangehoods by arrangement alongside an oven booking. Commercial kitchens aren’t something I take on, and I’d rather say so here than waste your time on the phone.
